The rising star and champion Annette Obrestad won the World Series of Poker Europe Main Event. She has broken through boundaries that have not been recognized in the past. Her acclaim begins as the first female main event champion, the youngest WSOP bracelet winner, and the first women to ever win the WSOP European championship. This win has echoed around the world within the poker community.

The WSOPE main event featured a buy-in of £10,000, which at the current exchange rate is double the American counterpart. Winning the championship netted Ms. Obrestad a whopping $2,000,000 and a coveted World Series of Poker bracelet.

The Pocketfives community expression of support and congratulations since the event has been overwhelming. Annette has come a long way in a very short period of time. She went from playing freerolls and grinding micro stakes to dominating the biggest tournaments online. Now this tightly Knit community of players are in awe of her accomplishments. Poketfive’s alfieo sums it up nicely, “It is funny how a girl that most of us will never meet has had such an impact. Would the reception be as great if lilholdem, or Imperium, or SCTrojans won the event? I think maybe, but probably not. We love those guys too, but this young girl is like everybody’s little sister. We have no envy, no jealousy. We love seeing her do well.”

Obama For President?

Posted on 13 February 2008 by admin

Pocket 5’s forum has always been a hot spot for discussing everything poker. Browsing the posts there, you can find people discussing poker strategy, software, and bragging about their latest wins. And now, apparently, Pocket 5’s is a new hot spot for politics. A quick glace at the list of threads in the Off Topic forums will find a number of threads discussing the Presidential Primaries, specifically Barack Obama’s bid for the Democratic nomination.

While the contents of these threads range from true political debate to complaints about campaigns selling email addresses to spammers, the message being sent is clear. Poker players are paying close attention to the potential Presidential nominee. Not only are they paying attention, they are also taking serious action.

One Pocket 5’s player, Jon Weisman, known on the site as Underdog, has taken it upon himself to hold some special tournaments for Pocket 5’s players. special tournaments for Pocket 5’s players. In a bid to raise funds for the Obama campaign, he has started a string of 50/50 tournaments. The tournament winners are splitting the pot with the campaign, making a strong political statement.

As of this posting, over $100 has been raised from the first tournament and the second, being held tomorrow, looks to raise at least twice that. Additionally, those not interested in playing in the tournament are invited to donate direct to Barack Obama’s campaign fund, which has already received over $150 from associated players.

By the looks of things, politics and poker could be a winning combination for Barack Obama.

The famous poker player Mike “The Mouth” Matusow, went on record on his own show on Cardplayer TV and admitted to cheating on full tilt poker. Mike said he took over a friend’s account 6 hours deep in an online tournament. He ended 3rd. This is against full tilt policy and we really cant see why he chose to openly go out with this.

Jennicide Naked In April

Posted on 09 February 2008 by admin

Late last summer the rumors started to fly about Jennifer Leigh talking to Playboy. This poker babe is now a Playboy Babe too. She has been an online poker professional for a few years now, accruing more than 100 thousand in tournament and cash game wins, not one to open herself up about strategy or her more public plans all the time however recently she is obviously showing a change of heart.

Jennicide is baring all in the April release of the men’s magazine. The rumors were true and the spread was taken in the fall of 2007, while people were still unsure if she would pose. She not only did the shoot but also released the comment that she is viewing this centerfold as a way to tell the poker world women are here to stay.

Now, how much attention do you think this online poker babe is getting over this? More than the forum 2+2 was ready for. The thread started on the 6th, and has more than 5 pages of responses, and not all of them are flattering. Some are excitedly looking forward to her full frontal appearance, while others would not even consider it worth a peek. The buzz continues as people are realizing this is coming soon. There are even some comments on her playing style and ability, live and online. At least one poster mentioned that they would ‘hit it’ but that was only after they mentioned she was decent in appearance, and not in play.

So far Pocket 5’s hasn’t said much.

So what poker babe do you think Playboy should chose next?

Pocketfives Coca-Cola Boycott

Posted on 06 February 2008 by admin

Pocket 5’s is full of buzz and chatter. The Poker Players at Pocket 5’s are calling for an all out poker playing boycott of Coke Cola because of a recent choice in spokesperson. Bill Frist, one of the greatest opponents of online poker made an appearance promoting Coke in a currently running commercial. Coke has made some enemies in the Poker Players in the US and around the world for asking this man to represent them. If only the impact becomes enough to be seen against Coke, how many of the politicians would take note?

Joehacehm and BertMinatti found themselves in a huge Sit N Go earlier this evening. It was eveidenlty rather one sided, and the thread ended with two posts:

Cy33 – That was quick! Who won?
Bertminatti – Not I

And last but not least 2 of the hottest topics right now refer to Full Tilt Poker and their current use of Security:

As it appears there was a cheating ring of some kind. There are several threads that talk about Full Tilt crediting back their account; however, there are a number of them that are also making some serious allegations against Full Tilt and their management of player accounts. At least two very popular and controversial posts are making it evident some of the managers in the fraud department are not looking at player history when they are choosing to freeze, suspend or restrict regular online Full Tilt Poker players. In at least one post the player was accused of having chips intentionally dumped to him, by a player they were able to mark as competing online with a stolen credit card. The player posted the hands and games that are being questioned by the FullTilt team. There were to many missed ‘dumping’ opportunities for the average online poker player to support FullTilt’s accusations.

The second popular thread has quite a different flair – but once again Full Tilt Security is raising questions about their choices. The thread discusses a previous debt to Firepay, who is no longer associated with Full Tilt Poker, which resulted in the closing of a first account, years ago. Since then the same player opened a new account in a new screen name, but the same real name and a credit card, as Firepay is not currently an option. He plays competitively but not steadily as he did in college, then places 3rd in a large payout tournament. What did Full Tilt respond with? Freezing the account for multi-accounting. After proving who he was to the FullTilt Security Team, he is getting no response on the resolution of this case. Is there something to fear by answering this poker player or helping him resolve an issue that is 2 years old and with a company that is not associated with them any longer? This particular player is not even denying his position of debt to Firepay, nor is he moving in a manner of deception with the company. Instead he is attempting to be responsible and approach this in a manner that is appropriate. Now, what will Full Tilt Security do? Or do they just take people’s money because they are becoming better more competitive players.

Annetaments

Posted on 06 February 2008 by admin

The European Poker Queen is on a down slide recently. In her most recent blog post, which has been taking great lengths between and her fans do miss her; she discusses the Aussie Millions and PCA. In the later she didn’t make it out of the first day. That made things interesting as she was able to enjoy her time and the trips she took.

At one point in the blog post she speaks about how she and Daniel Negreanu discussed a hand at length. The conversation began with a disagreement, albeit not any form of an argument. She made that clear when she spoke about the fact these two are very different players. As her blog continues she makes it understandable that she holds a great deal of respect for Negreanu, and enjoys the fact she can brag an online win against him. Evidently this was an enjoyable conversation as one might think all of their conversations are. At one point she even jokes about the dinner Negreanu still owes her related to that win. Annette did find herself inclined to believe that as Negreanu’s break came to an end, she may have caused him to change his view on how she plays 10-J. Now we just need to watch and find out.

What a thought, one of the highlights of her busting early in the Bahamas was a spirited discussion with one of her poker pals, instead of taking in the beauty of the beach. A poker player is a poker player at heart. No matter the surroundings.

She moved onto the Aussie Millions smoothly and with little incident. She found the trip with significant sleep on the airplane was not near as difficult as others had related to her. She found she was playing more conservatively in the main event of the Aussie Millions. With that in mind, Annette is going to continue to compete in that same manner in the coming tournaments, even if it means she needs to continue holding herself back from some instinctive plays.

One of the things she enjoyed doing while in Melbourne was bowling at the Crown’s Alley. She didn’t go alone there either. Jon Turner – aka PearlJammer and his girlfriend Tracey, were joined by Dag Martin aka Dmmikkel and a friend of his. Annette relayed how they all had a great time, and she was a little disappointed in her playing, but she enjoyed it none the less. Although it was well with in the budget of these incredible professional poker players, be aware the Crown in Melbourne doesn’t open the bowling alley’s cheap. At 16 dollars a game each person, even the talented Annette Oberstrad felt ripped off.

Annette_15 is one incredible and talent woman, who regardless of where she goes, she enjoys her poker game, and the area around her. She is leaving an impact where ever she goes and what ever she does, with incredible talent and focus, she will continue to be followed closely by many who enjoy learning from her wonderful spirit and talent.
